Blacklisted for Over a Year, Still Fighting in the Film Industry

It’s been over a year that I’ve been underestimated, blacklisted by seniors in the industry. I had no friends, no one to help, and I was labeled as having no future. I never came out to defend myself because, even if I did, who would believe me? My character isn’t seen as 'good,' and to be honest, I don’t even believe in the concept of 'good.' Good or bad doesn’t have a set standard—it’s all about perspective. Honestly, I admire myself for being able to cause so much chaos. In my work, I’ve always given opportunities to everyone, even if they lacked experience or efficiency. I still gave them responsibilities, and I never forced anyone to do anything. All I asked for was accountability.

I’ve read a lot of made-up stories where people blame me, saying I’m the villain. It’s easy for them because I didn’t argue back. At first, it was strange to see how many people broke their promises and then blamed me. There were also times when communication was bizarre, like when someone would say they cared deeply about me, seemed to love me a lot, only to tell others that I was scary and manipulative. Did they forget that during meetings, I always record audio just in case we forget something? I never intended to blackmail anyone, but it ended up being proof. Like, hey, you said that, you insulted others.

Whatever. We each live our own lives. I’m at a point where if you think I’m bad, I’ll make sure you’re convinced I’m bad. If you say I’m fake, I’ll let you see how fake I can seem—fake with sincerity, bad with seriousness. I’m very aware of where I stand and what I should be doing. The seniors in this industry never asked me even once what happened. Our society is driven by seniority based on age, not accomplishments. Some people are much older than me, with no visible success, yet they’re worshipped and have the power to decide people’s fates in the industry.

There was a new actor who posted a black jasmine flower on Mother’s Day, and they were immediately blacklisted. Rumors spread about the actor being involved in sex work, but despite all this, the actor still respected them. No matter how hard I try to see it, I can’t make sense of it.

As for the damage from what’s been said about me, it’s immeasurable. When people have decided that I’m bad, no matter how much I prove myself, I’ll always be seen as bad. So, I might as well let it go. After all, this past year has been filled with dead ends and darkness.

But despite all the setbacks, there’s one thing that stands out from last year. I had a meeting scheduled with Netflix, but less than 8 hours before the meeting, it was canceled, even though my name was on the list. It was very clear that they didn’t want to see me succeed. So, I went ahead and sold my films myself. You know what? I’m a director who isn’t great at speaking, but I carried my own films and sold them. Somehow, now my works are on Prime in the U.S., and Tubi, Woocoo, and other platforms are soon to follow. I give myself full credit because I did it all by myself. Haha.

To all new filmmakers, don’t rely too much on 'distributors.' Distribute your work yourself. I offer free advice, with no commission or cuts—completely free. I’ve been through the toughest challenges, and I don’t want the next generation to go through what I did. If you believe your work is awesome, let’s talk. Getting accepted by Tubi and Prime feels like a dream, but do you think I have a team? No, I’m just one person doing everything. I've reached a point where I’m afraid I won’t live that long because I’m working like crazy. I’ve opened a crowdfunding campaign asking for $2,300. Your $1 means everything.
