Is University Worth the Cost Anymore? + Free Stuff That Will Surprise You!
Let’s get real for a moment. In today’s world, does having a university degree truly guarantee success? Speaking as someone who runs a company,
I can confidently tell you: no, it doesn’t.
In fact, many companies—including mine—no longer base hiring decisions on where someone graduated or even if they have a degree at all. Here’s why.
Why Degrees Don’t Matter Anymore
When I hire people, I don’t look at their degree. What I care about is:
• Their experience: Have they done the work before? Can they handle the challenges?
• Their potential: Are they willing to learn and grow on the job?
• Their passion: Do they genuinely care about what they’re doing?
A degree doesn’t tell me any of that. Honestly, some of the most disappointing hires I’ve made were people with advanced degrees who had no idea how to do the job. It’s frustrating and a huge waste of time.
The Problem With Universities
The traditional education system has so many flaws, and I see it firsthand here in Thailand and worldwide:
1. Lack of Creativity: Universities often teach students to follow rules and fit into a mold, like robots. There’s no room for free thinking, individuality, or creativity.
2. Outdated Systems: In Thailand, for example, students are still required to wear uniforms in university. Why? It’s nonsense, outdated, and frankly, ridiculous. It stifles self-expression and has no place in modern education.
3. Unqualified Professors: Here’s a reality check—many professors claim to be “experts” and demand students listen to them, yet they’ve never actually done the work. As a filmmaker, I’ll never take advice from someone who’s never been on a set or made a movie. Experience speaks louder than a title.
Why I Trust Skillshare Over University
In contrast to the rigid and outdated university system, platforms like Skillshare have completely changed the game. Here’s why I trust Skillshare more than traditional education:
• Freedom to Learn What Matters: You can choose from a wide range of courses that are actually relevant to your interests and career goals. For example, I’ve been learning video editing, color grading, and website building—all things I use every day in my work.
• Flexible and Affordable: Unlike university, Skillshare gives you the freedom to learn on your schedule. No uniforms, no nonsense, just practical learning.
• Real-World Knowledge: The instructors on Skillshare are industry professionals with hands-on experience. They’ve done the work and are here to teach you how to do it, too.

If you’re still clinging to the idea that a degree is the only way to succeed, it’s time to open your mind. The world is changing, and skills, passion, and creativity matter more than ever. Skillshare gives you the tools to grow in a way that universities simply can’t.
