🎬 “I Wasn’t Selected — But That’s Not What Hurts the Most.”

Earlier this year, I submitted two of my film projects to a funding opportunity announced by the Ministry of Culture. As an independent filmmaker who’s been working outside the mainstream system for over a decade, this was a big deal for me. I had hope. I believed — just for a moment — that maybe this time, the system might see me.

I prepared everything with care: the treatments, the scene references, the links to my work. I wasn’t expecting special treatment. I just wanted my projects to be seen. Heard. Considered.

And when the results came out,

my name wasn’t on the list.

That’s okay. I can handle rejection. I’ve faced it many times before. I understand that not every story gets chosen, and I respect the judges and the process.

But then something strange happened — something that made my heart sink in a way I wasn’t ready for.

I checked the analytics on the links I submitted — the documents, the videos, the references.

Zero views.

Not one person opened the files I worked so hard to put together. Not one scene clip was clicked. Not a single page of my proposal was read.

It’s not that my project wasn’t chosen. It’s that it wasn’t even looked at.

That’s the part that hurts the most.

And I know I’m not the only one. I know there are so many other creators out there — writers, filmmakers, artists — who have poured their hearts into applications, believing this might be their chance, only to be met with… silence.

If we want to support independent creators in this country, we have to start by listening. At the very least, our work deserves a view. A moment of attention. A chance.

I’m not sharing this to complain. I’m sharing this because I care. Because I still believe in what we do. And because if no one talks about it, nothing will ever change.

To every indie creator who’s ever felt invisible: you are not alone. Your story matters. Even if no one opened your file — keep writing it anyway.

With love,
Aam Anusorn
