Hmmmmmmmmmm I just felt like….

Let's get straight to it: #MaXXXine was a letdown. Coming off the high of X and Pearl, I expected nothing short of brilliance from Ti West’s latest installment. Those previous films were masterclasses in slasher horror, drenched in 80s nostalgia with a modern edge that made them feel both familiar and fresh. But MaXXXine? It left me cold.

First off, the story felt like it was going nowhere. We follow Maxine's journey to fame in 1980s Hollywood, but instead of an exhilarating ride, it’s a meandering mess that lacks the tension and horror that defined its predecessors. The film promises a lot but delivers very little, leading us to a conclusion that’s more of a whimper than a bang.

I know this might be controversial, but MaXXXine feels like a film that didn’t need to be made. It’s almost as if they were riding the coattails of X and Pearl without bringing anything new to the table. Don’t get me wrong; I’m still a fan of this team. Ti West is a visionary, and Mia Goth is phenomenal, but this film missed the mark.

I get it, not every film is going to be a masterpiece, and that’s okay. But for something that had so much potential, MaXXXine feels like a wasted opportunity. It’s one of those movies where you can see the effort, but the final product just doesn’t connect.

At the end of the day, I’m still here for what West and his crew do next. They’ve proven themselves before, and they’ll do it again. But let’s call it what it is: MaXXXine was a misstep, and that’s the raw truth.
